'FACELIFT' FOR BEDROOM CHAIR AND OTTOMAN

This is an example of exactly what a slipcover is good for--my client's chair and ottoman are in perfectly good condition, and she still likes the fabric.  She just wanted to update the bedroom for spring and summer without reupholstering the furniture.

Then, sometime in the fall, she can remove the slipcovers, change out the rug and go back to her heavier, darker bedspread.  And voila ... 'new' bedroom.

A SMALL OTTOMAN AND ROMAN SHADES

Another job for Kim Kelly...last year when I visited Kim after being in the Bahamas, I measured this little ottoman for a new slipcover, and the windows for roman shades.  Because I shipped everything to her, I was not able to get photographs until last week.

The fabric is linen.  I had the fleur-de-lis printed on the top piece before I made it.  The skirt is a small knife pleat.

This linen was the strangest fabric.  The color and texture of it completely changed with washing.  So much so that, though I normally do not wash fabric when I am making roman shades (because it's not like you can take them down and wash them, so shrinkage is not an issue,) because it changed so drastically, I had to wash all of the fabric.  Otherwise, it would have looked like two different fabrics. 

The funny thing is, in these pictures it looks like the shade and ottoman are different colors.  It's just the lighting between the house and the back deck.  They really are the same fabric, pre-washed before construction.  

WHITE DENIM JUST NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE

 The two wing chairs and two ottomans got new white denim slipcovers.

 Back view with covered buttons.  In this case, buttons were not needed to get the cover on and off, so they are just for looks, they they do function.  Over time, though, fabric, and especially denim, can continue to shrink.  If this happens, the covers will be easier to remove and put back on.

It's a little hard to tell, but the skirts are not to the floor.  They are just long enough to cover the upholstery underneath.  It is a way to save on fabric when you are running short.  Plus, it gives a lighter feel to the piece and to the room.

SLIPCOVERS AND WINDOW TREATMENTS

I did not realize it had been soooo long since my last post.  I, of course, had the best of intentions to begin posting on a regular basis again.  As it turned out, my healing took much longer than I ever thought it would, and one of the casualties was this blog.  Now,  however, I truly am better and will be making a concerted effort to actually post my new work.  While it is true I did very little, if any, really, work while I was getting through my trauma, I am back to working full-time.  I had a call from a potential new client the other day and she had been on this blog and thought that I was no longer in business because there had been no new postings.  I'll say it again, I AM BACK TO WORKING FULL-TIME.  And below is one of my recent jobs:

And another ottoman at the foot of the bed.  I also did pillow shams, but my client will save those for her 'summer' bedding.

WHITE LINEN SLIPCOVERS

I finished last night and just got home from delivering these white linen slipcovers. The good thing is, they are washable; so if the unthinkable (cranberry sauce or red white, eek!) happens, my client can wash it right out. I don't think the grandkids will be allowed on the furniture tomorrow, though, just to be safe!

The ottoman also got a short skirt.

The wing chairs are a slightly different size, though to look at them, you can't tell. Luckily, my client pointed it out when I was there cutting because I, for sure, would have just cut one, made two the same size and just now when I was putting everything on, I would have found out I screwed up. I've done it before and it isn't fun.

All the pieces, except of course the ottoman, got buttons up the back, though none of them had to be undone to get the slipcovers on. They just look cuter that way.
